| During the ship's first mission in the Delta Quadrant, a weak emergency beacon was detected. Schofield piloted the Equilism to Menir IV at close to the ship's top speed (~ Warp 9.7) and placed her into geosynchronous orbit for the retrieval of the crashed USS Caliban. On the order of Captain, Schofield was then tasked to fly shotgun for the recovery teams due to the intimidating presence of 100 foot tall worm-like creatures. However, he was able to transport two of the three survivors to the Equilism before the recovery teams could enter the plant's atmosphere, and the creatures could attack the stranded personnel, before returning to the crash site for the last survivor. Daringly, the last survivor was beamed from the digestive tract of one of the worm-like creatures and transmitted to the Equilism in a dash to the ship before the transporter buffers wiped. All the USS Caliban members survived the rescue operation and were returned to Kemaris Station. | | During the ship's first mission in the Delta Quadrant, a weak emergency beacon was detected. The New Era | During the ship's first mission in the Delta Quadrant, a weak emergency beacon was detected. |
Come Out... | Upon returning to Kemaris Station, the Equilism was tasked to explore a protostellar nebula, 4 light years from the station. For an unknown reason, the ship spontaneously crossed an event horizon or similar gravitational boundary, causing it to 'fall' towards the centre of the nebula. Schofield attempted to break out of this field, but the ship's impulse drives lacked the necessary thrust to do so. An escape course was plotted, but the ship was further drawn into nebula, which sensors revealed to be a subspace sinkhole. Moments before performing an axial turn to land on the boundary of the sinkhole, the sinkhole deactivated and Schofield continued on an escape course from the nebula. As the CO excused himself, Jethro took command of the bridge for the first time. After a sudden technical emergency involving trapped personnel and the CO's announcement of Dr. Caden as the ship's new XO, Jethro returned to the FCO console to pilot the Equilism away from the nebula and sinkhole. However, before the Equilism could escape the nebula, a series of technical catastrophes hit the ship. In response, the CO called a senior staff meeting and handed control to his XO - but not before being locked into his ready room with his aide.
Upon returning to his console once more, Jethro quickly calculated the probable cause of the major malfunctions, including the triggering of a shipwide red alert, however, the ship continued to drift towards the nebula boundary. The ship's condition continued to deteriorate, with an explosion on the bridge causing Jethro minor burns as well as further issues with the lower decks. A temporary ICU was set up on Deck 3, where all personnel, except the CO, were eventually moved to, waiting in the freezing cold for the arrival of the USS Aeon to rescue them. |
Full Report | Upon return to Kemaris Station, the crew was debriefed by an unimpressed Admiral Taylor. However, amongst other awards given to the crew, Ensign Schofield was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, and appointed the Equilism's Second Officer. |
The Ending | For the duration of this mission, LtJG Schofield was on a Leave of Absence (LOA). |
Loose Change | An expanded senior staff assembled in the Observation Lounge, treated to a sumptuous meal by the Captain. Jethro told the story of his mysterious absence during the last mission (The Ending), and had a quiet chat with the Captain. Moving into the mission, the ship's sensors found a subspace anomaly - later revealed to be two crossing warp trails - bringing the Captain to call for input from his senior staff amidst the heat of 'bridge babble'. As a team of senior staff ventured to Main Engineering to collect samples of the trail for identification, Jethro found himself welcoming the Deputy Director to the Equilism as an unexpected guest. Upon return to the bridge, and the Captain's Ready Room, he was further suprised to be offered the vacant post of XO. He accepted, understanding the offer was brought about by dire circumstance, and returned to the bridge to enable the vital samples to be collected. |
