Planetary Features
Betazed is a lush, beautiful world of jungles and magnificent geological vistas. Water accounts for a substantial portion of the planet's surface. Its dominant species are the telepathic Betazoid.
History
Betazed has participated actively in Federation politics throughout its membership, concentrating mainly on issues of trade and diplomacy. For example, Betazed served as the host of biennial Trade Agreements Conference in 2366.
During the Dominion War, the Starfleet Tenth Fleet assigned to protect Betazed was caught out of position on a training exercise and Betazed was occupied by Dominion Forces. A major component in Betazed's fall were its antiquated planetary defense systems, due to which Betazed fell in under 10 hours.

Background
Betazed is considered to be an important Federation member world. The Dominion occupation of Betazed was a major blow to Federation morale, as well as being strategically significant for the course of the war. Betazed was liberated at the latest when Dominion troops withdrew from the Alpha Quadrant, at the end of the war in 2375.
