Personal History
Tom Nimbus was born of the Galactic Planet of Peace shortly after the Klingons, Romulans and the Federation declared the experiment on Nimbus III a failure.
Tom was a foundling, literally discovered as an infant dying in the sand. He was gathered into the orphanage and unceremoniously given "˜Nimbus" as a last name. His youth was not notable except for the trouble he caused, and like most young men on the poverty-stricken Nimbus, Tom was an accomplished brawler, drinker and thief.
When Nimbus III was declared a proper Federation Colony in 2332, Tom took advantage of the free transport off world and headed to Earth. He challenged Starfleet's Enlisted Personnel Certificate, passed the test and was in space by his seventeenth birthday.
Tom Nimbus has performed virtually every task imaginable on board a starship. He has received training in Flight Ops, Operations, Engineering, Security, Tactical, and Transporter Operations. Tom Nimbus became a Chief Petty Officer with a Security and Tactical specialization after 20 years of service. Despite his small frame, Tom was known to be a very gifted soldier.
While serving on board three starships and one Starbase, Chief Nimbus earned a reputation for doing the nasty jobs and doing them very well. In the area of ground operations under risk or under fire, Nimbus' rare combination of skill, guile and toughness made him a near-legendary figure among his peers; there simply wasn't a tight spot he couldn't find his way out of or a fight he couldn't somehow win. While his experience and credibility earned Tom a particularly impressive reputation, and had him on a first name basis with several Admirals and Captains, it also eventually earned him a demotion.
In 2374, Chief Nimbus was charged with gross insubordination for physically disarming a junior Lieutenant who Tom deemed too inexperienced to lead a particularly dangerous mission. While his court-martial agreed that the decision had been the right one, it could not excuse Chief Nimbus from having struck a superior officer. Nimbus was demoted to Petty Officer 1st class and reassigned as an Engineering Technician.
Nimbus was returned to his rank three years later at the behest of his first officer and old friend, Lodo Ashe.
Shortly after, Ashe was offered a command of his own. Rather than accept the offer of early retirement, Chief Nimbus accepted Ashe's offer to serve as his personal assistant on board USS Equilism.
The day after joining the crew of USS Equilism, Chief Nimbus celebrated his 48th year of service in Starfleet.
Continuing Service
Upon the reassignment of Lodo Ashe to Starfleet Special Operations, Nimbus had applied to be attached to the same mission as his oldest friend. Citing his age, Starfleet Command declined his application and he was assigned to the Security Department on Kemaris Station. This was done at the request of Lodo Ashe who indicated that the assignment was likely temporary and that both he and Tom would be able to return to their old roles upone Ashe's return.
When Ashe was delcared KIA, Nimbus was privately devastated but continued with his new duties while contemplating retirement. Currently, he has made no decision and serves as a senior, non-command member of the Kemaris security staff.
Upon the request of Hozet Ashe, Nimbus agreed to serve as a medical technician and triage specialist. After challenging and completing the Starfleet requirements Nimbus became a registered nurse with a specialization in trauma evaluation. Based on his five decade career, Nimbus was assigned as Head Nurse.
Education Background
Given his extremely long and varied career, Nimbus is qualified to do almost every job on a starship. He is fully rated in flight control, transporter operations, weapons and tactical, starship operations, general engineering, several forms of combat, shuttle and EVA operations. Further, when considering a change in his Starfleet career, Nimbus also qualified as a full triage medic and completed most of the training needed to become rated as a Nurse by Starfleet Medical before deciding that he wished to remain in Security and Tactical.
